PLE VS LMS
I really enjoyed listening to the vlog by Stephen Downes where he very explicitly described the differences between PLE /LMS
Personal Learning Environment/Learning Management System, and he brought valid arguments in favor to PLE .
There are some distinctive advantages that make me want to support PLE system.
Unlike LMS, PLE system allows an individual, a student to be in charge of his own data, to stay connected, and to have an access access to the sites she chooses.
The biggest drawback in LMS system is that once an individual graduates from the university or a college, all the valuable data he has in LMS (moodle) , stays behind, it doesn't belong to the student anymore. Which is a huge minus considering the fact that most of the students are not able to read all the material or simply would like to keep it as a source material for the future, but LMS doesn't provide that opportunity. Even though it might provide connection and collaboration, it still is happening through the institution who controls everything.
Moodle is much like LMS students are connected through the moodle but as long as they have an access to it. If they don't they are blocked out. Same way works edmodo.com, which is a great tool , user friendly but still work as LMS .
Moodle from the other angle : It was a great experience for me to explore moodle from the teacher's perspective, I realized how much it facilitates teacher's in their work performance. It is an amazing tool for a busy teacher who wants to manage it all in very organized and structured manners. Through moodle the teacher can assign activities grade, mark the attendance, etc so many features in one program. I think it is really handy to learn and explore it more.
